I received the following email recently from an AHW reader who was seeking advice on how she can manage a sticky situation with two of her friends. Read on…

Dear Action Heroes Wanted,

I am writing you in hopes I can get some advice on maintaining two friendships. My problem is that I have two friends who get jealous of each other if one is spending time with me while the other is not. The two of them fight like crazy. They also fight when all three of us are together. They bicker about every little thing and to make it worse, they want me to take sides. It is upsetting to me because I really like them, especially when they are not together. I have told them to stop fighting and that I don't like one more than the other. Please let me know what I should do. My summer was wrecked because of their fighting.

Hello Jenny. I can relate to the situation your are having with your friends. Your options in this situation are limited. You can either avoid your two friends and break off the relationships with them or you can be more tactful and firmer in your approach. I will explain what I mean in a minute but first I have two recommendations for you.

  • No matter how frustrated you get with either of your friends, never take sides. You might agree with one of them, but always remain neutral.
  • Do not participate in the drama that your friends create when they fight. No one will benefit from it, especially you!

Now here is my suggestion to resolve this bickering issue. The next time your friends are over and start to fight, ask them to leave. Be firm and hold your ground. Explain to them that you will not tolerate the fighting and will not let it wreck your day. I assure you the fighting between your two friends will quit if you do this a couple of times.

Keep me posted and let me know how it goes. I look forward to hearing from you.

Please note that I am not a therapist, psychiatrist or counselor of any kind, so my suggestions are nothing more than that. What works for me might not work for everyone. I am just an eleven years old girl from Michigan who has a blog.

Welcome to Action Heroes Wanted and the begining of my very first blog posting. I would like to start off by introducing myself. Below is my story. My autobiography. I would also like to know more about you, so please write me and share your story.

INTRODUCTION

My name is Bailey and this is my autobiography. I was born before the stroke of midnight on May 29, 2001. My mom and dad choose the name "Bailey" for me because they once took a trip to Ireland and found it to be a popular and light hearted name of many of the boys and girls there. I am glad they chose the name for me because I really like it a lot.

I live in Michigan, where we get to experience all four seasons, as they should be. Breezy springs, warm summers, snowy winters and brisk falls. The weather is always unpredictable here, and hard to forecast. This is because large bodies of water known as the Great Lakes surround Michigan!

I guess I am like most kids my age. I like having friends, being active and spending time with those I love. People who know me say that I am artistic, creative and sometimes silly. I am thankful for everything that I have and the opportunities both earned and given to me.

My mom, Karen went to Michigan State University when she was younger and received a degree in design. Today she is a very artistic and creative art director designing colorful posters, product displays and promotional materials. My mom is also a good cook. I really like her chili and homemade Alfredo. It is the best!

My dad's name is Sean. He went to Ferris State University and earned degrees in technology, mechanical engineering and business. He has worked for several large companies including General Motors. Today he is a partner in a software development company that makes health and wellness educational tools for K-12th grade students to use. My dad is like a big kid. He likes to build crazy stuff like guitars, robots and cool animated Halloween props. He also likes to play video games.

I don't have a brother or sister, but I do have a large fluffy orange beast of a cat named Buster. He is very loving and affectionate. He wants to be with us all the time.

I enjoy going to school and learning new things. My favorite subjects include reading, math and science. I like to read because I get to use my own imagination to create the pictures. I also enjoy art and music. I have been learning how to play the violin for two years. I like the violin because it sounds pretty and it is a challenge to learn. I like all my teachers. They all work hard and make class time fun.

I recently started to learn how to ride a horse. I have ridden horses in the past but wanted to know how to actually care for, prep and ride properly. Horses are beautiful animals and each one has its own personality. Some can be stubborn while others are more laid back. I don't know if I will ever own a horse. Perhaps when I am older? Who knows?

During the winter months, I like to go downhill skiing and ice-skating. I started learning how to ski about four years ago. The place I go to have a program where kids learn to ski properly and have a chance to earn badges. The badges are probably similar to getting a level belt in karate. If you can demonstrate to the instructor that you can do a particular move or series of moves properly, then you go up a level and earn a badge.

I recently started a new Website that this blog is a part of. The site is called
Action Heroes Wanted and its purpose is to inspire people to be kind, help each other whenever possible and to praise those among us that are true unsung heroes. I am speaking of everyday people like you and me. People who are not aware of the fact that their everyday actions make our world a better place. I have many ideas for my blog and website and welcome feedback.

I truly hope that you find some merit and enjoyment from reading my blog entry and I would be honored if you subscribed.

Thank you.
